Telling the stories of war and genocide through theater - Jenny Montgomery joins Montreal Life Stories

The objective of Montreal Life Stories is to collect and spread the stories of Montrealers displaced by war, genocide or other types of Human Rights violations. Once recorded on video, these intense, rich and powerful stories must be heard. The performing arts represent exceptional tools for spreading information as they can transmit all the power of emotions and allow the public to live through these difficult personal stories.

As Ahmadinejad took the stage at the United Nations General Assembly on SepT 23, speaking of compassion, justice and peace, thousands of Iranians gathered outside the UN and demanded the “coup President” to be held accountable for the crackdown, torture, rape and murder of hundreds of Iranians back home, while holding pictures of those who were bloodied, bruised and killed following the contested presidential election in June.

In an unprecedented wave of global citizen activism in support of freedom-fighters in Iran and in condemnation of increasing violence, crackdown and imprisonment of peaceful demonstrators by the Iranian government, the 25th of July has been selected as the Global Day of Action for People of Iran.

Stories Matter

"Stories Matter is a new, open-source database building tool created by
oral historians for oral historians. In its current state, Stories Matter
is both Mac and PC-compatible. It allows for the archiving of digital
video and audio materials, enabling users to annotate, analyze, evaluate
and export materials, as well as tag, index, search, and browse within
interviews, sessions, and clips or across entire collections. The software
can be downloaded for free at www.stories-matter.com."

Artist-in-residency selected

The selection committee for the Artist-in-Residency program has chosen Ally Ntumba. He will receive the 2009-2010 annual grant of 8000$ to develop his "TEAM" (Together Each Achieves More) projet. For more information about the artist, see www.allyntumba.org
